The MindinfoLine offers callers confidential help on a range of mental health issues. It is open Monday to Friday from 9.15am to 5.15pm. Deaf or speech impaired enquirers can contact us on the same number (if you are using BT Textdirect add the prefix 18001).

CarersLine, run by Carers UK, gives advice about benefits and practical help to people who provide unpaid care by looking after an ill, frail or disabled family member, friend or partner. CarersLine is open Wednesday and Thursday from 10am to 12pm and from 2pm to 4pm. If you call outside these hours you can leave your name and address and CarersLine will send you a carers information pack.

Hearing Voices Network

The Hearing Voices confidential helpline provides information and help to people who experience hearing voices, seeing visions and tactile sensations. It is available from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Depression Alliance

The Depression Alliance provides information, support services and a network of self-help groups for people affected by depression.

The Samaritans helpline is open 24 hours a day. It provides confidential emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of worry, distress or despair, including feelings which may lead to suicide.

Bipolar UK

BiPolar UK is a charity helping people affected by bipolar disorder/manic depression take control of their lives. They provide many member-based services, self-help groups and general information and advice.

SANE is a charity working to improve the lives of people affected by mental illness. The SANELINE telephone helpline offers practical information, crisis care and emotional support to anybody affected by mental health problems, and is open from 1pm to 11pm every day. 


The OCD-UK website provides comprehensive information and advice to people affected by obsessive-compulsive disorder, and includes a discussion forum.

National Self Harm Network

The National Self Harm Network provides an online forum for people who self-harm or self injure, as well as their families and friends, to communicate, share advice and tell their stories. 

No Panic

No Panic is a charity providing relief and support to people suffering from panic attacks, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorders and other related anxiety disorders, including tranquilliser withdrawal, and their families or carers. Their confidential helpline is open from 10am to 10pm every day. Outside these hours you can leave a message. To call the helpline from overseas dial +44 1952 590545.
