Nine people have graduated from the most recent Moving In Moving On (MIMO) painting and decorating course run by Thames Reach, with a ceremony taking place earlier this month at the Employment Academy in Camberwell.

The six-week programme – the second MIMO Course run exclusively for women – involved three weeks of training to teach the basics, including: preparation of plaster and timber, paper hanging, and paint systems. This was followed by three weeks of practical work onsite at Sumner House in Peckham, which provides affordable space to community organisations.

The graduates received their certificates from Vicky Mather, manager of the Dulux Academy in Slough, which has offered further painting and decorating training opportunities to those who’ve completed MIMO.

The event was also attended by Conner Lambourne and Gemma Jones from Wilmott Dixon, the UK’s leading independent construction and property services company. As well as delivering a presentation to graduates, the company has offered an additional three weeks of training, with two of those onsite, renovating Age UK in Bermondsey.

Rob Townsend, who runs the MIMO, said: “The group were brilliant and very supportive with each other. Everyone who started the course finished and they met the deadline for the onsite job, painting a corridor at Sumner House.”
