Thames Reach has appointed Stephen Howard, a former Chief Executive at two FTSE 250 Index-listed companies and at a leading civil society network, as Chair of its Board of Trustees.

Stephen was Group Chief Executive at Cookson Group PLC and Novar PLC between 1997 and 2005 and then took charge at Business in the Community in 2005 before retiring in September 2016.

Thames Reach Chief Executive, Jeremy Swain, said: “I am delighted that Stephen Howard has agreed to become Chair of Thames Reach following a competitive recruitment process that included not only an interview with representatives from the Board, but with Thames Reach service users too.

“He brings a rich mix of experience gained from many years of leading companies in the corporate sector and, more recently, through being Chief Executive of one of the country’s most prominent civil society networks, Business in the Community.

“Stephen’s long standing commitment to tackling homelessness and great track record in helping people facing disadvantage to find work gives us great confidence that, under his stewardship, Thames Reach can help even more people transform their lives for the better.”

Thames Reach Chair, Stephen Howard, said: “I am both honoured and delighted to be taking on the role of Chair of Thames Reach. I strongly endorse Thames Reach's vision of a society where street homelessness is ended and our mission to ensure that every Thames Reach service user is able to find and sustain a decent home, develop supportive relationships and lead a fulfilling life."

Stephen replaces Ken Olisa OBE as Chair who will continue in a new role with Thames Reach as Honorary President.
