Volunteering into Employment

Volunteer John

Volunteering into Employment provides on-the-job experience and training to people who are close to finding work but need a final helping hand.

A six-month placement provides work experience, the chance to develop self-confidence and new skills, whilst strengthening volunteers CVs and providing them with a recent reference.

The volunteers get a chance to develop their professionalism, punctuality and learn about working within a team.

The placement involves volunteering for two days week and is preceded by four days training over an initial two-week period.

Roles are found both within Thames Reach and externally and have included social care and administrative roles at homelessness projects including the Employment Academy, Robertson Street and at hostels and day centres.

The volunteers will receive support and encouragement through their six month placement in an effort to find and sustain paid work.

They will also be able to access support and ad-hoc training via the Employment and Resettlement team and its Information Advice and Guidance drop-ins, or be allocated a peer mentor to help them on their journey towards finding paid employment.

For more information, please contact Thames Reach’s Employment and Resettlement helpdesk on erhelpdesk@thamesreach.org.uk or call 0203 691 5111
