You First is a ground-breaking £9.7 million service funded by the Big Lottery and supporting the most vulnerable and chaotic adults living in south London.

The You First team was set up to help people with complex needs such as homelessness, repeat offending, substance misuse issues and mental health problems.

It will help take pressure off costly emergency services frequently used by this client group.

Launched in Summer 2014, funding will last eight years and 270 people are set to benefit.

The You First team brings with it a new approach. They will focus on coordinating local services, including A&E, housing, police and probation services to make sure that their clients have access to the right kind of help they need to support their recovery.

A unique part of the programme has included involving people who already use local services. The ‘Expert Service User Group’ has many different life experiences, from drug dependency, domestic violence, mental health issues, homelessness and repeat offending. They have been on board since the start of the project to help shape the way the new team understand what it’s really like for people living with multiple needs.

You First was set up by the Fulfilling Lives partnership led by Resolving Chaos and consisting of charities and public sector organisations from three local authority areas, including Thames Reach.
