Thames Reach has systems in place to support service user trainees through any literacy difficulties that may arise.
Thames Reach trainees are required to have a minimum Adult Literacy Level 2. However, we have found that some trainees struggle after placement with literacy issues such as dyslexia.
We now offer additional literacy support, which is delivered by a qualified tutor. The tutor offers those trainees who extra help one-to-one support for a time-limited period.
This scheme has been highly successful. The tutor carries out extremely accurate assessments of literacy and needs and is able to recommend resources that may help, such as additional equipment or homework, to help the trainee reach a satisfactory level.
This service has is now offered to all staff within the organisation who are struggling with literacy.
