Hours:   Full time 37.5 per week

Employment and skills support is integral to Thames Reach’s services as it gives people the opportunity to move away from the risk of homelessness.  Southwark Council have awarded us a contract to support homeless and vulnerably housed people in Southwark into work, better work and training. 

About the Role

You will be part of a team working closely with housing and homelessness services across Southwark. You will assess people’s needs, agree with them an action plan and support them through it so that they can access education, training, volunteering, employment and better work. We want to reach people before they become homeless so that, by supporting them into work or better work, their income will increase and they will be less likely to lose their home.

Tasks include:

-Running ‘outreach hubs’ across the borough each week. 

-Working closely with housing & homelessness organisations across the borough, in order to reach people in need

-Providing one-to-one support, coaching, job search & applications and interview prep

-Providing structured Information, Advice & Guidance (IAG)

-Advocating with employers

-Brokering opportunities with training providers and employers

-Delivering workshops

-Supporting people to sustain work and find better employment

-Signposting and supporting people to access training, basic skills support and welfare benefits support

-Linking with housing advice and support services

-Support people to overcome barriers e.g. childcare for interviews

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

-An understanding of the barriers that vulnerable people face

-Organisation, an ability to plan your work to provide a rapid response to referrals

-Commitment to providing a high standard service

-Ability to build a rapport with people / interpersonal skills

-Ability to quickly engage homeless people

-Have an enthusiastic approach to taking part in training and acquiring new skills.
