At Thames Reach we are driven and committed to helping homeless and vulnerable people to live in decent homes, build supportive relationships and lead fulfilling lives. Our vision is to end street homelessness and our aim is to achieve the highest standards and effectiveness in service delivery to vulnerable people.

We are currently recruiting for 2 Lead Workers to join our Newham SORT team.

This a new service and forms part of a significant increase in the boroughs complement of services to improve its response to rough sleeping. Newham SORT works to reduce the number of people rough sleeping in the borough. Newham has some of the highest numbers of rough sleepers in London and working in this team will give you an opportunity to make a real difference to rough sleeping.

If you are looking to use your existing knowledge and experience of working with homeless people to move into a role where you will have more influence and responsibility and be able to work to resolve the homelessness of some of the most complex rough sleeping clients in London this may be the opportunity you are looking for.

This post will give you the opportunity to build on your ability to carry out assessments, identify options, devise plans to achieve these and oversee a multi-agency problem solving approach with people who may have a history of challenging services.

With the help of our experienced senior staff and management, you will be supported and trained to use your strong communication and creative problem-solving skills to enable you to create and deliver options for people where these may be hard to find. You will receive regular supervision from experienced staff who will both guide your work and encourage and facilitate your personal development.

To be successful you’ll need to have the interpersonal skills and the commitment, patience and perseverance required to work with a case load of complex rough sleepers and the confidence in public speaking to enable you to represent Thames Reach and speak about our work to our partners. As we work in partnership with enforcement agencies such as the Police and local authority enforcement teams, you’ll be comfortable doing this and will be able to speak to others about the benefits of this joint working approach.

You will have the confidence and knowledge to supervise volunteers and the strong I.T skills needed to be able to collect, collate and interpret information and statistics on rough sleeping and present these in external meetings. You will need to have the ability to be flexible and responsive to meet the needs of rough sleepers, including being available for some early and late shifts.

As well as a great working environment we also offer:

-5% employer pension contribution.

-Development opportunities.

-29 days annual leave plus bank holidays.

-Reimbursement of the cost of annual eye test

-Season ticket/cycle loan

-Flexible Working

-EAP services

Thames Reach is committed to achieving a diverse workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We value, respect, and celebrate diversity. We welcome and encourage applicants from all sections of the community regardless of their history of homelessness, sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, or religious belief.
