We are currently recruiting a Lead Worker to join our Newham Street Outreach Team (Newham SORT).
This is a new service and forms part of a significant increase in the boroughs complement of services to improve its response to rough sleeping. Newham SORT works to reduce the number of people rough sleeping in the borough. Newham has some of the highest numbers of rough sleepers in London and working in this team will give you an opportunity to make a real difference to rough sleeping.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to use your existing knowledge and experience to move into a role where you will have more influence and responsibility and to work towards quick outcomes to support rough sleepers to access accommodation.,
As a lead worker you will:
-Support the team to reduce the total number of people rough sleeping in Newham by overseeing the case work of support workers in the team, whilst holding a caseload of your own.
-Identify the quickest and most appropriate route off the streets for rough sleepers and devise a plan to achieve this. Carrying out fast interventions to support rough sleepers to access accommodation, and ensure that the appropriate support is in place to sustain this.
-Focus on improving local response to rough sleeping by coordinating joint working between agencies.
-Identify gaps in provision and create new pathways off of the streets for complex rough sleepers, including those with no recourse to public funds.
With the help of our experienced senior staff and management, you will be supported and trained to use your strong communication and creative problem-solving skills to enable you to create and deliver options for people where these may be hard to find. You will receive regular supervision from experienced staff who will both guide your work and encourage and facilitate your personal development.
To be successful you’ll need to have:
-Experience in working with vulnerable adults and supporting them to access services.
-Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to coordinate the progress of a high number of cases and to complete tasks promptly and efficiently.
-Commitment to working in a challenging environment with the ability to be flexible throughout the working day.
-Confidence in public speaking and the ability to represent Thames Reach to external organisations and form strong working relationships with partners
-Strong IT skills with the ability to use outlook, excel, and word.
While a large proportion of your time will be spent working day shifts Monday-Friday, you will be flexible and able to work late and early shifts and weekends as required.
