Christmas Campaign 2017

Our Christmas Campaign for 2017 highlights the trauma faced by older people sleeping rough on the streets.

Rough sleeping at any time of life is a dangerous experience.

Sleeping rough when you are older in years is life threatening.

Older people who sleep rough face violence and assault, serious health problems such as pneumonia, arthritis, osteoporosis, kidney failure and exacerbated mental health issues. As well as the additional traumas of isolation and fear.

Older women are at risk of even greater forms of abuse and exploitation.

Last year:

– 857 men and women over the age of 55 slept rough on the streets of London.

– 194 of whom were over 65 years of age.

Fortunately, Thames Reach has a dedicated team working specifically with older people, helping them to leave the streets and find a secure and warm place of safety so that they can start to rebuild their life anew.

Please support our work to end street homelessness by donating now.
